I was just thinking about how nature is such a reflection of God. His character is woven into every natural, and beautiful, and perfect thing.
There was a bad storm yesterday. When I woke up it looked like any other spring morning. Sure there were clouds in the sky that should’ve been an indicator for me, but all I noticed was the sun breaking through them. I know now, that it was merely just the calm before the storm. Within an hour the sky grew dark, the wind picked up, it began to drizzle. Then the hail, the downpour, and the intense winds came. But just as quickly as it came, it was gone again. Don’t get me wrong it loomed over us for a few hours, causing people to take notice. To change their plans. Called them to be more cautious. For some people the hail left damage and I’m sure the same goes for the wind and flooding.
But even though those truths exists, it is also true that the rain did stop. The wind did slow. The hail melted. What we were left with was stillness, and what we were gifted was an intense sunset full of so many bold colors that engulfed the sky.
It is now the next morning and I’m out on a long walk. As soon as I opened my bedroom curtains this morning I knew I had to. There is not a cloud in the sky. There’s a subtle chill in the air that pairs perfectly with the warmth of the sun. It’s strange how much I want to take advantage of this good weather now. Sometimes we need a little rain to remind us how grateful we are for sunshine.
We have the privilege of viewing God’s promises in the same way. His hope will always return. New as the morning, as sure as the sun rise. There is not any storm that may pass that could convince us that the sun will not rise again. That would be against nature. That would be against God’s character.
Storms will come, it is inevitable. They may catch us off guard if all we care to notice is the calm before. They will bring winds and rain. They may loom over us for some time. They could leave damage behind.
But the light will always return.
That’s a promise. That’s a lifeline.
That’s our hope.
